Corsica TourismWhile everyone else might be heading to Paris to find out what the French are about, you might want to take a different route. Instead, head into Corsica, the island nation that’s off to the south. You will still get a taste of the French culture, but without the crazy crowds and the touristy attractions. This is a place where you will be able to enjoy the land of France, without having to be anywhere near the rest of the country. Situated in the Mediterranean Sea, closer to Italy and to the waters where you can escape from the busy-ness of your normal life. Little Country and That’s OkayIf you’re looking to explore a larger country, you might want to head somewhere besides Corsica. This country is only divided into two regions:
This does make it all the easier to traverse, even if you’re bad with directions. You will be able to see the entire country in one trip, unlike the rest of France. Or you might want to stop by Corsica after you’ve done all of the touristy things in the rest of the country. The main cities in Corsica include:
You will be able to see all of these cities in one simple trip to the country, or you can choose one to explore as though you were a local, going to the places where locals go and just sitting in the outdoor cafes. When in Corsica…You should walk. A lot. You will find some of the best hiking trails in the world in Corsica, including theGrande Randonnée trails:
As you can see, these aren’t trails you hike in the afternoon after lunch. You might hike these trails as your entire trip. To do so, you will need to be an avid camper with the supplies to set up camp each day. You don’t want to move along these trails too quickly as they are strenuous at times. Corsica is a place where you can walk away from your troubles and away from the madness of France. Here, you can get acquainted with the hills and the topography of the land, by walking from one end of the island to another. Even if you only do a few of the trails, you will be able to see the country in a new way, and that’s much more fun than taking the Metro everywhere. Plus, you can eat all of the food you like without worry since you’ll be burning those calories off on the trails. |
